I’ve been updating this list for years now, and I’ve learned quite a bit along the way. There are some things that many people don’t know about Rhode Island food stamps!

  • Apply for RI EBT online. I’ve had many people tell me that the only reason they don’t have food stamps is because they’re too embarrassed to go into the office. You can apply online and skip the lines!
  • You can buy fruit trees. Many people think you can only buy food with your EBT card, but that’s not technically true. Your food stamps card can do much more than buy groceries! You can also buy seeds, produce-bearing plants, some birthday cakes and even certain gift baskets! Check out what you can buy with your RI EBT!
  • Shop smart. You may be able to get more food for your money at farmer’s markets and You-Pick Strawberry Fields!
  • You could qualify for more food stamps funds! When I was receiving food stamps, I filled out the paperwork completely wrong. I didn’t know it at the time but I could’ve received hundreds of dollars per month in extra food stamps! If you are struggling to buy enough groceries each month, then you really need to read this post!
  • You can get cash back (it’s legal)! With smart shopping techniques, you can put cash back in your pocket when you shop with EBT. Here’s how.
  • You can shop at many places. You can use your RI EBT funds in some unexpected places. In addition to most grocery stores and gas stations, you can use your card at Costco, many farmer’s markets and even Schwans food delivery trucks! Here’s a list of places that accept EBT.

Property tax exemptions for low-income seniors and disabled veterans may be available from your local county assessor’s office. Contact your assessor’s office for more information, including income limits and application instructions.

Get discounted admission with your RI EBT card!

For your convenience, we’ve organized our free and discounted museum admission list alphabetically by city. Museums with green titles are Museums for All participants, which accept EBT cards from all 50 states.

Your Rhode Island EBT card can be used at any Museums for All partner in any other state! Check out our lists for nearby Connecticut, Massachusetts and the rest of the United States.

It is important to realize that you cannot pay for admission with your EBT card. You will show the EBT card to receive the discount but you will need to pay the remaining admission price, if any, in cash or with a credit/debit card.

Newport

Newport Art Museum – FREE

Since 1912, Newport Art Museum has positioned itself as a cultural gathering place for anyone with an interest in art. In addition to a permanent collection and rotating exhibits, the Newport Art Museum also offers concerts, live theater, art and book talks, family workshops and more throughout the year. Show your RI EBT card, to receive free admission for you and three other people.

Providence

John Brown House Museum – FREE

Built in 1788, this house once belonged to well-known merchant, patriot, politician and slave trader John Brown. You can walk through the mansion and experience what it was like to live in the US at the end of the 18th century.

Lippitt House – FREE

Step into Providence’s Golden Age with this preserved Victorian house museum. The Lippitt House is a National Historic Landmark. They offer both guided and self-guided tours.

Providence Children’s Museum – $2 per person

EBT cardholders can play at Providence Children’s Museum for just $2 per person! You and 3 others can get admission at this great price, when you show your RI EBT card. Exhibits focus on learning through play, including water play, a children’s garden and a two story climbing maze.

RISD Museum – FREE

Established in 1977, RISD Museum, which is affiliated with the Rhode Island School of Design, currently holds a collection of more than 100,000 works of art dating back to ancient times.

Historic New England – $2 per person

Historic New England operates 4 historic locations across Rhode Island. These locations are all participating in Museums for All and charge $2 per person, for up to four people per EBT card.
