7 Things You Need to Know
I’ve been updating this list for years now, and I’ve learned quite a bit along the way. There are some things that many people don’t know about Texas food stamps!
- Apply for Texas food stamps online. I’ve had many people tell me that the only reason they don’t have food stamps is because they’re too embarrassed to go into the office. You can apply online and skip the lines!
- You can buy fruit trees. It’s true! You can buy much more than just groceries. You can buy seeds and produce-bearing plants with your Texas food stamps card! You can also buy certain gift baskets and birthday cakes. Here are some other surprising things you can buy with food stamps.
- Shop smart. You may be able to get more food for your money at farmer’s markets and You-Pick Strawberry Fields!
- You may be eligible for more food stamps. Most people don’t know how their food stamps funds are calculated. Since we’ve found the exact algorithm they use, we’ve also found a few ways you may be able to increase your monthly award!
- You can get cash back (it’s legal)! With smart shopping techniques, you can put cash back in your pocket when you shop with EBT. Here’s how.
- You can shop at many places. Some retailers, such as Farmer’s Markets, often offer double-up programs where you can get twice as much food as you pay for. Bulk retailers like Costco also accept food stamps. Here’s a list of places that accept EBT.
- You can use your EBT card in other states! Not only can you shop in other states, you can also get EBT discounts in other states. All of our state lists use green titles to indicate what venues accept out-of-state EBT cards for discounts.

Get discounted admission with Texas food stamps!
For your convenience, we’ve organized our free and discounted museum admission list alphabetically by city. We have also used green titles to distinguish museums that honor EBT cards from all 50 states.
It is important to remember that you cannot pay for admission with your Texas food stamps card. You will show the EBT card to receive the discount but you will need to pay the remaining admission price, if any, in cash or with a credit/debit card.
Amarillo
Dan Harrington Discovery Center – $2 per person
The Discovery Center includes 6 miles of nature trails, a splash pad and playground, botanical gardens and so much more!
Austin
LBJ Presidential Library – FREE
Although it may seem strange to pay to get into a library, this is no ordinary library! You’ll be able to listen to dozens of LBJ’s historic White House telephone conversations, step into a replica of the Oval Office, look into Lady Bird Johnson’s office and more!
Thinkery – FREE
The Thinkery promotes creative problem solving with a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) focus. Exhibit galleries include a Kitchen Lab, Innovator’s Workshop, Light Lab, a huge play structure and more. Admission is usually $12 per person but your family can visit FREE with an EBT card!
Zilker Botanical Garden – $3 or less per person
The botanical garden is found on 26 acres within Zilker Metropolitan Park. It includes themed gardens such as the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, Riparian Streambed, Rose Gardens, Hartman Prehistoric Garden and more.
Bryan
The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley – $3 or less per person
From Mission Control to Georgie’s Lily Pad, your little ones will love exploring the exhibits and events at The Children’s Museum of Brazos Valley! As a Museums for All member, this museum charges $3 or less for up to four people per EBT card.
Canyon
Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum – $3 or less per person
This is Texas largest historical museum and for good reason. It covers over 26,000 square miles of history, covering all of time from the dinosaurs to the conquistadors to the old west to today!
Corpus Christi
Art Museum of South Texas – FREE
The Art Museum showcases art from America and beyond. It is affiliated with Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and is a Museums for All participant.
Dallas
Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum – $3 per person
Founded by a group of local Holocaust Survivors, the museum is dedicated to teaching the history of the Holocaust while also fighting against prejudice and hatred in society. It is one of the top-rated attractions in North Texas.
Nasher Sculpture Center – $3 or less per person
Located in the Dallas Arts District, the Nasher Sculpture Center collection includes more than 300 stunning creations by renowned artists like Matisse, Picasso and more.
Perot Museum of Nature and Science – $1 per person
The Perot Museum is a fantastic place for Texas adults and children to explore – and you can visit for just $1 per person! Their discount program is slightly more complicated than other programs but includes anyone who receives TANF, Texas food stamps, WIC, SSI, RSDI, CHIP, or Children’s Medicaid. Proof of enrollment in one of these programs and valid photo ID is required.
This museum only offers discounted admission between May 30 and September 5. Tickets are available for the benefit recipient and up to seven immediate family members. All tickets must be used on the day of purchase.
Parking is not included and no refunds are available on the discounted tickets. The discounted tickets do not include films or special exhibits.
El Paso
El Paso Museum of Art – FREE
A significant donation of European Baroque and Renaissance works led to the creation of the El Paso Museum of Art. The collection now includes over 7,000 works. Admission is always free!
Fredericksburg
National Museum of the Pacific War – $3 Per Person or Less
Explore this six-acre museum, which is solely focused on the Pacific and Asiatic Theaters in World War II. The complex includes the Memorial Courtyard, Plaza of Presidents and Japanese Garden of Peace. There are regularly scheduled combat re-enactments, also.
Pioneer Museum – $3 or less per person
The Pioneer Museum is situated on 3.5 acres. It showcases historic homesteads and buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse, log cabin, worship building, bath house, barn, smokehouse and more.
Fort Worth
Fort Worth Botanic Garden – $1 per adult
Explore over 100 acres of growing beauty at this living horticultural museum! The Fort Worth Botanic Garden welcomes families with SNAP or WIC for just $1 per adult. Children 15 and under are free. If you want to visit often, you can get a discounted family membership for just $30 per year!
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History – $3 or less per person
FWMSH is an incredible place! Admission includes entry to the exhibits, Cattle Raisers Museum and even select showings at the Noble Planetarium. Their exhibits are always evolving, so there’s always something new to see and do!
Kimbell Art Museum – $3 per person
The Kimbell Art Museum features an extensive collection, fascinating special exhibitions and more. With your EBT card, your immediate family can visit for just $3 per person!
Galveston
Galveston Children’s Museum – $3 or less per person
Designed for children between two and 10 years old, the Galveston Children’s Museum features many fun exhibits including a Kid’s Clinic, Building Zone, Tinker Workshop and more!
The Bryan Museum – $3 or less per person
The Bryan Museum hosts one of the world’s largest Texas-related collections. Their artifacts and art span more than 12,000 years of human history and includes more than 70,000 items.
Houston
1940 Air Terminal Museum – $3 or less per person
The museum features several galleries with aviation memorabilia, such as models, documents, photographs and silver service items.
Children’s Museum of Houston – FREE
The Houston Children’s Museum offers FREE admission to Texas food stamps recipients, as well as anyone receiving TANF or WIC. The award letter and photo ID must be shown at the admission desk. There is a limit of six FREE admissions per qualifying document and the named benefit recipient must be present at the time of(whether admission.
CM Houston offers free admission to everyone (whether they receive any benefits or not) on Thursday nights between 5pm and 8pm!
Houston Maritime Education Center and Museum – $3 per person
This education center and museum are all about the maritime industry. With STEAM activities, artifacts from around the shipping world, and more, you can learn all about what it means to be at sea.
Houston Zoo – $4.50 per ticket
The Houston Zoo offers a Lone Star Access Program for Texas food stamps recipients. For just $4.50 per ticket (75% off regular admission!), up to two adults and three children can visit the zoo! There is no limit to how many times per year a family can purchase these discounted tickets.
These discounted passes do NOT include Zoo Lights, Wildlife Carousel, concessions, the Hermann Park Train, giraffe feeding platform, classes, educational programs, gift shop purchases or special tours. Tickets must be used the day they are purchased.
The Health Museum – $3 per person
The mission of the Health Museum is to “foster wonder and curiosity about health, medical science and the human body. This interactive science center offers discounted admission for EBT card holders of $3 per person, for up to a family of 4.
Longview
Longview World of Wonders – $3 or less per person
This hands-on discovery center features exhibits that are fun, educational and challenging. It is a very new attraction that opened in August 2016.
As a Museums for All partner, WOW charges $3 or less per person with a limit of four discounts per Texas food stamps card.
Lubbock
Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater – $3 per person
This incredible science center has something for everyone. From Science Stage to dinosaurs, Tinker lab to the Nano exhibit, children and adults of all ages will find exciting and interesting things to explore, learn and do.
McAllen
International Museum of Art & Science – $1 per person
If you have a Texas food stamps card or evidence of WIC benefits, you can visit IMAS in McAllen for just $1 per person through the Museums for All program! Take a look at their exhibits by clicking here.
McKinney
Heard-Craig Center for the Arts – $3 or less per person
Heard-Craig Center for the Arts has a very dysfunctional website. I have confirmed that they have joined Museums for All and I have reached out to the Center for details. I’ll update this when I have more information for you.
San Antonio
Blue Star Contemporary – FREE
As of June 2020, donations are requested in lieu of admission. Their mission is to inspire the creative genius in us all by nurturing artists through innovative contemporary art.
Briscoe Western Art Museum – FREE
The Briscoe Western Art Museum allows you to experience the art and artifacts that bring the stories that shaped the West to life. Learn more about the stories of the cowboy, the vaquero, Native Americans, and the vast beauty of the Western landscape through drawings, sketches, paintings, and sculptures.
DoSeum – $3 per person
As a Museums for All partner, you can visit the DoSeum for $3 per person, that’s an $11 savings, each! Show your EBT card and valid ID and you and 3 others can enter this fun and exciting museum, for this great price.
McNay Art Museum – FREE
This was the first modern art museum in Texas! The McNay hosts more than 22,000 works, including some Medieval and Renaissance art.
San Antonio Botanical Garden – $3 per person
Up to four people can visit the San Antonio Botanical Garden for just $3 per person per EBT or WIC card!
San Antonio Museum of Art – $3 per person
A visit to SAMA takes you around the world and through five thousand years of art, from the most comprehensive ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art collection in the southern United States to the comprehensive Asian art wing which displays works from Korea, India, and Japan, and includes an important Chinese ceramics collection.
The Witte Museum – $3 per person
Explore the Witte Museum with the Valero Great Hall, Naylor Family Dinosaur Gallery, McLean Family Texas Wild Gallery and Kittie West Nelson Ferguson People of the Pecos Gallery, all with accompanying LABS for school children and families.
Texarkana
Ace of Clubs House – $3 or less per person
This house is actually built in the shape of a club, with three octagonal wings and a rectangular wing. In fact, it’s been featured on numerous TV programs! If you have a Texas food stamps card, you can tour it with three friends for $3 or less per person.
Discovery Place Children’s Museum – $3 or less per person
I wish I lived closer because I would love to see the one million volt Tesla coils they have! The Discovery Place Children’s Museum has some amazing things to discover, including a 12 foot sound wall, a replica 1900’s Mercantile store and more!
Museum of Regional History – $3 or less per person
Not surprisingly, this museum is Texarkana’s first and oldest! In addition to your usual historical collections, it also features interactive displays and is housed inside a building that was constructed in 1879!
P.J. Ahern Home – $3 or less per person
If you enjoy architecture and/or history, then you’ll enjoy a trip to the PJ Ahern Home! This Classical Revival style home features original Italian tile, woodwork and more
The Woodlands
Woodlands Children’s Museum – $3 per person
More than 15 fun, interactive exhibits await children at Woodlands Children’s Museum! From art to abstract thinking, socialization to motor skills, the open floor plan offers something for everyone in the 7 and under crowd. See their exhibits by clicking here.
Bring your Lonestar EBT card to the Woodlands Children’s Museum to receive $3 admission for up to four people. Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. WCM is a Museums for All partner.
Tyler
Discovery Science Place – $3 per person
“Science is our Middle Name,” boasts Discovery Science Place. This museum ignites curiosity through exciting and interactive STEM-based exhibits like the Buford Kinetics Gallery, Trinity Mother Frances Robotics Exhibit, Dino Dig Pit and DSP train set. Kids can make their way around a miniature town, including a bistro, neonatal nursery, veterinary clinic, bank, courthouse, grocery story and even a mine!
Waco
Mayborn Museum Complex – $1 per person OR $10 per family per year
The Mayborn Museum Complex spans 142,000 square feet! It houses hands-on discover rooms, interactive natural science exhibits and cultural history features. A walk-in diorama of the Waco Mammoth Site is included. The complex also includes a 13 acre historic village, 5,000 square foot rotating exhibit gallery, a theater and more! The complex is located on the Baylor University campus.
Families with EBT cards have two admission options. You can pay $1 per person for up to two adults and all dependent children in the household OR you can pay $10 for a membership that provides unlimited admission for an entire year!
